Notice of appointment of Michel Harnois

NOTICE OF APPOINTMENT

SUTTON MUSEUM OF COMMUNICATIONS AND HISTORY

The Museum Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Michel Harnois to the position of Museology Coordinator.

Michel Harnois has been a museologist for nearly 30 years. He began his career as a researcher, and then became curator of a science museum in Sherbrooke. He continued his career as guest curator of technology collections for Hydro-Québec and Bell Canada, while also working as a consulting museologist for museum institutions across Quebec. He then became General Director of small history museums in Coaticook and Sherbrooke. In recent years, he has taken an interest in living heritage, meeting with elderly people in CHSLDs and private residences. Over the years, he has written a number of acquisition and collection management policies, managed science, history and ethnology collections, developed several exhibition concepts in science and history, carried out thematic research and produced permanent, temporary, travelling and online exhibitions. By becoming museology coordinator at the Sutton Museum, he is returning to his roots to help set up professional tools.

This hiring was made possible by the Government of Canada’s Community Services Recovery Fund.

The Community Services Recovery Fund is a one-time, $400 million investment from the Government of Canada to support charities, non-profits and Indigenous Governing Bodies as they adapt their organizations for pandemic recovery.

“I am continually impressed by the passion, dedication, and creativity of community service organizations, like le Musée des communications et d’histoire de Sutton. I am equally proud the Government of Canada has supported their important work through the Community Services Recovery Fund. By investing in these organizations and their projects we can help to create a more just and equitable society, where everyone has opportunities to succeed. I look forward to seeing the positive impact of this investment in Sutton over the years to come.”
